Inducing Ovulation Treatment

Sometimes, infertility may be caused by irregular or absent ovulation, meaning that there is no egg produced to be fertilised. You can overcome this by choosing induced ovulation, which stimulates the ovaries to release an egg.

What causes lack of ovulation?

You may not ovulate regularly for a number of reasons, including:

Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Ovarian failure (premature menopause, etc.)

Severe stress

Weight problems

Hormonal issues

Drug therapy

How is ovulation induced?

Your ovaries are carefully monitored during your cycle, using echo-sonography (USG).

The follicles are stimulated to grow and release eggs using both oral medications, such as Clomophine or Letrozole and/or Metformin, as well as injections of follicle stimulating hormones such as FSH.

The treatment method will vary depending on the ovulation issue, but the aim is the same – to stimulate the predictable release of a healthy egg for fertilisation, either naturally through intercourse, or directly using intra-uterine insemination.

Reducing the chances of multiple births

One of the main risks of induced ovulation is that several eggs may grow and be released at once, leading to a risk of multiple births, most commonly twins. We carefully monitor ovarian responses to reduce this risk, and may recommend the cancellation of the cycle if we feel the chances of a multiple birth is too high. A cancelled cycle is not counted in your multi-cycle package so there is no financial loss to you.  This policy is a good example how we keep our patients’ interests at the top.

Fixed fee packages for peace of mind

With a fixed fee package, you will know exactly what your treatment will cost from the start, regardless of how many cycles and scans are required. A fixed fee also means you can make decisions based on clinical information, rather than cost, and can afford to abandon cycles where there are too many eggs, or where there has been a poor response to treatment.

We are one of the few centres in the UK that does not charge for consultation and monitoring during such cycles, so all you lose is the cost of the medications.
